Of Cribs and Dressers...

Hey everyone... all is well with B... nothing new to report on his or her health or wealth.

Only baby news that's happening is that we're trying to spiff up & use the crib that I used-- and my brothers before me-- so that's kinda fun, kinda frustrating. Fun b/c it's just neat to see it up and work with it... sentimental reasons and all. Frustrating b/c even though it's sturdy and safe (I mean, at least 5 kids grew up in it!!) we're having trouble finding replacement parts for some of the hardware that rusted. But we're not giving up on the search just yet!

It was made by the Thomas Edison Furniture Company, which I think is so ironic since his winter home is across the river. Is white, and has a nice pic of Jack & Jill & a baby deer... So I think we're going to be optimistic about getting it ship-shape and have chosen a storybook/ nursery rhyme theme for the babys room.

That's all for now. Hope everyone is doing well! Love, K, J & B

Something in the way she moves...

or the way he moves! This is a great week for sharing news. First, a few nights ago, Jim felt the baby move!! We were sitting together on the couch, and Jim had his arm around me, resting on the side of my belly. Suddenly, in Jim's words, "whap!" He jumped and asked me- did you feel that? was that the baby? I laughed and said yes. "Wow." Then, whap! whap! whap! "Whoa, baby, settle down!" I think the baby wanted to play with his Dad. Jim thinks the baby was being territorial and telling him to "get off my belly space." Either way, it was pretty neat.

Then yesterday, one of our volunteers gave birth to a baby girl! Today we popped up to the hospital to say hi from the whole staff, and to drop off some little presents for the big brother and sister! It was pretty neat to hold Holly- she looked just perfect. It's hard to believe just 2 days ago she was INSIDE her mom!

Today we also had another pre-natal appt. I had that glucose test to see if I have diabetes. I was more worried about blood being drawn than the drink- boy, did I have that wrong. That little bottle of innocent looking orange stuff was the WORST thing I have ever tasted. And since I had to drink it within 5 minutes- ugh. I almost threw up twice. Thankfully it's over, though I'm still not feeling so great. (Kinda like a few hours after you eat a ton of Easter candy- but without the pleasant chocolate aftertaste!). Anyway, we'll get the results by Monday. Can you believe that next month we move to appts every 2 wks?

On a bright note, my cousin was able to bring her baby boy home this past week. Keep praying as they adjust to having a preemie - and a second child- around ;)

That's it for now. Hope you're all well and happy...

Milestone: First Mood-Swing Meltdown

Okay, you know nothing that exciting is happening when I'm going to blog about a mood-swing...
Seriously folks, I'm doing fine and have no other news to report right now! B is still there (hurray) and moving around-- this week, about the size of a mango apparently. Which makes Jimdad and I happy b/c we have a fun nickname again (hello, baby mango! it's time for mangomania!!).

But the most interesting event of the week (so far!) came Wednesday night. We were at Mom's house, and Jim decided to add some water to the massive fish tank. He goes and gets the special 5 gal. bucket, adds the appropriate drops of magic-make-it-safe-for-fishies-stuff... and comes into the living room. I'm not sure exactly what he did that made me nervous, but I started (ahem) yelling that he shouldn't do it that way. To which he replied with his infamous bulldog look. Which made me more upset- you know, the usual cycle!

So finally, he says "Just WATCH me do this" and I yell - in a very good imitation of a 5 yr old- "I will NOT watch you"... and stomped out of the living room. Except I had socks on, and Mom has some kind of smooth floor, so when I turned into the hallway (out of sight), I promptly slid into the wall. Which of course, made everything worse. So I finally get into one of the rooms, shut the door, leaned against it, and... burst into tears!

And as I'm sitting there crying, I'm thinking "what am I crying about? this is ridiculous..." And another minute passes... I'm still crying, only now I'm thinking "...and embarrassing." After about 5 or 10 minutes, I calm down, and sheepishly go back out into the living room. Jimdad, God bless him, is still perturbed. So I ask if he's done with the fish water, because I'm done with the mood swing!

Later, we all get to laugh about it. Yes, unfortunately my Mom witnessed the whole thing. But she did great 'staying neutral' (!) and also sees this as my payback for my 6th grade year. That was when I came home and announced that she was THE oldest mom in my class, and my teacher said I should be nice to her because she was going through hormone changes and one day it would be my turn...

Guess my turn started this week!
