Four more weeks!

Well, as far as we can tell, anyway... the due date is still 7-28. Though we were thinking 7-22 might be neat, since it's Jim's birthday month (July) and my birth-day (22). Still, a short, energetic and joyful birth is what we really want!!

So the time has come for us to get things together... I know, I know, we should be on this already. But we've been- I dunno, in denial?? In any case, we're starting to unwrap stuff and find a real place for it so the 'extra' room will transform into a 'baby' room.

The process was helped a bit yesterday, as a bunch of folks from church threw us another shower! They got Jim in on it, but I thought it was a youth bbq (which would've been more exciting if I didn't think it was outside!!). Much fun - lots of great people, all supportive and excited about 'Baby Jenkins'. It's really amazing to me how many people are looking forward to this little one's arrival!

On another note, today I had a pre-natal massage. It was utterly fantastic- there was a special table with a 'cutout' for the belly... I had honestly forgotten how good it feels to lay down face first!! And Braidy used one of the hypno-birthing CDs for music, so that helped set the mood right away. Great practice, I think, for the birth-- being in a birthing room, soft lights and nice music, focusing on relaxing... But I may need *more* practice over the next few weeks!

Will try to post again later this week- another appt. comes up Thurs. Oh, and Jim's knee turns out to be both tendonitis and his miniscus (spelling?) tore and flipped upside down? So he got a cortizone (sp?) shot which may heal it... if not, in about 4 wks or so he'll need to have a scope procedure. Neat timing, eh?!

Prayer Request

Hi everyone....

Jim's Grandma, Esther Fry, passed away yesterday morning. Please remember her and the entire Jenkins-Fry-Ebersole family in your prayers this week.

Click here for her obituary. Of course, that's basic info, and doesn't quite capture her strength, wit, stubborness... and genuine love for her family.

Above are a few photos from the past 2 years or so. Many thanks for your prayers.

Knees, Feet, Showers

Hi Folks,

Interesting week down here... Last weekend, Jim's knee began to hurt... it turned out to be calcified tendonitis. Very confusing, as he's never had problems with his knee and we can't pinpoint a specific activity where he may have hurt it. Though it may be related to his ongoing occassional affair with gout! In any case, he's had a full leg brace on this week, so we've had to adjust a bit. The silver lining is that I've realized how much he spoils me!!

My feet are still swelling a good bit, but it's just swelling so far. Annoying, but nothing serious. I've tried almost every kind of fitness/vitamin/electrolyte drink out there, and most aren't my favorite. Though orange vitamin water and grape G2 seem to be doable!! I have gone back to the once-per-week-caffeine, which helps of course.

This weekend we've ended the week on some high notes. Yesterday, we had another (!) shower- thrown by some friends of ours. Small but highly entertaining! And the favors were cookies flown in from New York! Plus a diaper cake (with non-chlorine diapers- I had forgotten about those!) and cute decorations and a very challenging nursery rhyme theme :) Oh, and yummy lasagna and homemade cake with fruit... Add some really great people to the mix and it was a great afternoon! If Mom hadn't dragged me off their couch 4 hours later, I might still be there!!

Then today we worked a bit in the a.m., took a nap, and headed to another friend's house for dinner. We hadn't seen them or their kids in a whil, so it was a nice relaxing time.

This week, please keep Jim's grandmother in your prayers. Thanks.

Next Month??

So here we are in June, and if the baby's ETA is July 28... that means we could have a baby NEXT MONTH?!? Wow, this is suddenly going along a lot faster. Mostly.

Local folks think I look pregnant now (really, after only 8 months?). They're saying I have "that glow". How do you feel, they want to know. Honestly... swollen. and off-balance. My feet are swollen every day- the only question is before which meal - a good day means I can get to dinner with relatively the same sized footprints.

As for the off-balance phemon... it is really amazing to me how, when I stand up after 30 minutes of sitting, I can literally feel my insides rearranging themselves. Fun conversation-

Me: You know what I'm really looking forward to when this pregnancy thing is over?
Jim (innocently honest): the baby?
Me: Um, yeah. That too.

What I was really thinking was for my body to return to a fairly stable and skinnier state! Although, despite the unusual developments that are part of normal incubating... being pregnant is kind of fun. I mean, the freedom to take naps whenever is just awesome!

Oh, and the prenatal check up went fine yesterday. All stats, measurements, developments, etc are normal and good. Got "the list" of what we need to bring to the Birth Center, have at home, etc. The towels/garbage bags in the car (in case of water releasing early) freaked out Jim, as did some of the other "deal with graphic bodily functions or messes" tools... but all in all it looks doable.

Not like we can back out now anyway!
